1. What do you think are the most important issues impacting downtown residents at the state-level, and what do you plan to do to help?

Daniel P. Contreras:

The most pressing issues for downtown residents include economic development, affordable housing, and public safety. To address these, I plan to advocate for state policies that incentivize business investments and create job opportunities. I will also support initiatives that increase affordable housing options and ensure funding for public safety programs that enhance the well-being of our community.

2. KC is the only city in Missouri (and one of very few in the country) without local control of its police department. What is your position on state control of the KC Police Department?

Daniel P. Contreras:

Kansas City’s lack of local control over its police department is unique and problematic. I believe in local governance and accountability. Therefore, I support transitioning control of the police department to local authorities, as it will ensure that policies and practices better reflect the needs and priorities of our community.

3. Would you support increased Amtrak funding in Missouri, to add new routes and improvements on existing routes?

Daniel P. Contreras:

I am in favor of increasing Amtrak funding in Missouri. Improved and expanded rail services would enhance connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and promote economic growth by making travel more convenient and accessible for residents and visitors.

4. What else would you like to share with downtown neighbors?

Daniel P. Contreras:

As a candidate, my focus is on fostering a vibrant and inclusive community. I am committed to listening to the voices of downtown residents and working collaboratively to address their concerns. I am dedicated to transparent governance and believe in making informed decisions that benefit the greater good of our community.
